Secretary General
Eva Yuan, Class of 2023
Deputy Secretary General
Stephanie Chen, Class of 2023

Esteemed directors, student officers, delegates, and guests,
Welcome to SHASMUN X: The Sound Barrier! My name is Eva Yuan, and I am honored to serve as one of your Secretary-General of the Executive Branch this year. I have been a part of MUN for seven years now. Though I initially joined as a shy, yet passionate, middle schooler, I can now proudly reflect upon my growth within this program. As an admin staff member, delegate, and chair, SHASMUN especially has aided me in discovering a voice with which to advocate, both for myself, and for others. I am grateful to have been served by the MUN community, and I hope to serve the community in return.
During a time seemingly defined by climate anxiety, international hostility, and the tireless fight to secure human rights, MUN focuses on hope. While these issues continue in the world around us, in the committees of SHASMUN X, delegates will work towards solutions.
I look forward to seeing you all in January!

Esteemed directors, delegates, and student officers, welcome to SHASMUN X: The Sound Barrier!
My name is Stephanie Chen, and it is my greatest honor to serve as one of your Deputy Secretaries-General of the Executive Branch this year. I’m incredibly excited to be part of this team working towards making SHASMUN an international tournament again. In a year plagued by the pandemic and lockdowns in Shanghai, the very fact that this tournament is happening is testament to the ability of technology and innovation to help us overcome supposedly impossible issues. In my opinion, that’s the spirit behind discussing the sound barrier. We seem to be accelerating towards a point of no return—towards the day when climate change becomes irreversible, when world hunger becomes unsolvable, when the 1% come to own 100% of wealth. The prospect of that is scary, because we have no idea what lays beyond the point where the sound barrier breaks. But I think the United Nations and its endeavors prove that there’s still hope for humanity. SHASMUN X will defy its circumstances in Shanghai and, through discussion and resolution-making, I’m sure the world can defy its path of acceleration towards the sound barrier. How we do that is up to the delegates, and I look forward to seeing the resolutions that come out of this conference in January.

Deputy Secretary General
Sean Zhao, Class of 2023
Deputy Secretary General
Emma Zhou, Class of 2024

Esteemed directors, student officers, delegates, and guests,
Welcome to SHASMUN X: The Sound Barrier. My name is Sean Zhao and I am honored to serve as one of your Deputy Executive Secretaries General this year.
Four years and seven conferences have taught me that all problems have solutions, that diplomatic enmities can be amended, and that the international community is more resilient and determined than we had ever imagined.
As international tensions escalate and domestic discord ensues, we need now more than ever to hark to this spirit of cooperation and compromise that the United Nations and MUN were founded on and find ways to ease the world past the sound barrier.
I look forward to the solutions that you will all produce at SHASMUN X!

Esteemed delegates, student officers, and directors, welcome to SHASMUN X!
I am Emma Zhou and it is my honor to serve as one of your Deputy Secretary Generals of the Executive Branch. I started MUN in the sixth grade and over these five years I have been shaped by the various conferences I have been to and by the unique delegates, chairs, and directors who have mentored me along the way. I learned not only about the global issues affecting our society, but also about who I am as a person and how I could make an impact on the world. I have attended a total of eight conferences, in which I have collaborated with many others to make the conferences educational and enjoyable. I hope I could use my experiences and the knowledge I have gained from them and pass them on to other passionate delegates. I know for sure that in SHASMUN X: The Sound Barrier, delegates can explore how people are being affected by our fast paced society.
I started off my MUN career being part of the administrative staff for the Security Council in SHASMUN VI and I have been a delegate at two SHASMUNs, including two SHASMUNito’s. Therefore, I am glad that I am now part of the secretariat team and can take part in overseeing each committee and the fruitful debates that will occur in them.
I look forward to seeing you all in January!
